Special Projects History

Pro Geo has a long history of industry firsts over the past 40+ years:

Frontier Arctic work at Norman Wells, Tuktoyaktuk (Tuk) Peninsula & MacKenzie Delta (NWT) and Kotaneelee (YK) – There have been a number of exploration programs in the arctic over the past 35+ years and Pro Geo was there right alongside them providing wellsite supervision on these high-profile programs:

  • Esso Resources - 67 wells (1983-1988)
  • Petro Canada – 11 wells (1984-1986)
  • Devon Canada – 8 wells (2002-2006) including Devon Kotaneelee L-38 in the Yukon and Devon Paktoa C-60, one of the only offshore artic wells in Canada in the last 25 years!
  • Chevron – 4 wells (2003 and 2007)
  • AT&S Exploration – 4 wells (1985-1986)
  • Grey Wolf Exploration- 2 wells in 1999

Offshore & Deepwater – Wellsite supervision for Esso Resources’ Beaufort Sea and East Coast Offshore (Baffin Island) projects in 1978-1980.  Pro Geo also provided wellsite supervision on Devon Paktoa C-60 - one of the only offshore artic wells in Canada in the last 25 years!

Quebec Shale Gas – When Talisman Energy drilled 9 Utica and Lorraine Shale wells in Quebec between 2008-2010, Pro Geo was their trusted provider of wellsite supervision and sample collection.  Samples were taken for subsequent analysis with XRF.

Ecuador Gold – in 2017, Coco Liso was exploring for gold in Ecuador and relied on Pro Geo to provide detailed XRD sample analysis to determine mineral quantities.

Ecuador Multi-well pad drilling – a 10 well directional and horizontal pad drilling program from 1998 to 2001 with AEC, Rio Alto International, Pacalta and the Ecuador Government providing wellsite supervision.

Oilsands – Pro Geo was there when Esso/Imperial Oil began production at the first commercial in situ project, in Cold Lake, in 1985, with production exceeding 140,000 barrels per day by 1989. Imperial Oil was largely responsible for increasing the production of bitumen five-fold from 1984 to 1996.  Since 1983, Pro Geo has provided wellsite supervision on over 1,500 heavy oil, in situ, SAGD, thermal and stratigraphic wells for Esso/Imperial, Petro Canada, Chevron, Amoco, Devon, Total E&P, Paramount, KNOC, Pengrowth and Petrobank.

CBM – Coal Bed Methane and shallow gas wells became popular in late 2001 after PanCanadian and MGV established the first significant commercial CBM production in the Horseshoe Canyon and Belly River coals.  Pro Geo was there with PanCanadian and MGV in the early days of CBM and later provided wellsite supervision to a number of CBM and shallow gas operators including: Trident, Devon, CNRL, Nexen and Encana (now Ovintiv) on more than a 1000 wells in Alberta.
